Science Fair 2012

Only 1 of our boys is required to do a science project.

But I figure, whatever is good for the goose,
is good for the gander.

So all 3 participated.

If you know me,
you know that I can't stand hate LOATHE projects.

But these were actually fun.
Bowdie does the actual project with them,
I do the report and board.

And I finally got smart this year and laminated all the headings
that I printed out for the boards, so *VOILA*, the boards should come
together lickety split next year!

Blaine chose a project that had to do with the gas
released from yeast and how water temperature affects that.
We had to measure the circumference of balloons as they filled
with gas (until they stopped 'growing') ... let's just say it was a lengthy little project!

Jacob's project was about paper airplanes
and how the amount of folds in the plane affect how far it flies.

Jarrett's project was about the fizz in Cokes -
do cold Cokes or room temp Cokes have the most?

Mulberry had a science night at school
and presented awards.
When we walked in the cafeteria, Jacob was on the screen
explaining his experiment.
If you know Jacob, then you can just imagine how detailed
and thorough he was in his explanation!

Jacob was so excited to win first place!

And we were SO proud for Blaine and his first place finish!

Unfortunately, my camera failed to snap fast enough to get Jarrett's picture.
We were happy that he got second place.

*disclaimer:  there were multiple first, second & third place winners
for each grade level.

After the awards were done,
we were able to go to 3 science stations ...
the boys each chose 1 that they wanted to see or do.
First stop was with the 5th grade teachers -

first experiment:
they put vinegar in the water bottle,
attached a balloon with baking soda on top,
dropped the baking soda in the bottle,
and watched the balloon blow up!
I absolutely LOVE Jacob's face in this picture!

Look at J-man's face ... so fun!

Listening to instructions ...

The 5th grade teachers also did the infamous
Diet Coke/Mentos geyser too.
It was GREAT!

This station was with the 2nd grade teachers -
making silly putty ...

Our 3rd station was to see tropical birds ...
no pictures, but very interesting and LOUD!

So proud of these 3!
