After a year of planning
and fundraising
and practicing
and gathering
and reserving …
the week finally came!
Off to Cooperstown we went.
This would be Blaine and Jacob's first ever flight.
Speaking of flying … yes, we flew.
We had considered driving,
but considering that Bowdie would be staying in the barracks with the team
(which meant limited sleep!)
and the fact that we were going to stay in the City for a few days after our week in C-town,
we thought it wise to fly.
No, it wasn't cheap.
We immediately got a Southwest Visa credit card
and starting socking all we could to it to earn points.
Ends up, though, that my parents were SO generous and paid for our flights.
We were blown away!
What a blessing and gift!
So, Friday morning came.
We left our house before 6 a.m. to head to the airport.
My sweet dad came and drove us so we wouldn't have to leave a car at the airport.
Again, a huge money saver!
It was a bit of an adventure checking our bags …
we weighed them at home and thought they were all below 50 lbs … oops.
Rookie mistake.
And so there we were, opening up and rearranging stuff right in the line.
In front of everyone.
EM-barassing.
But our Southwest lady was so nice.
She suggested we split shoes between suitcases to fix our problem.
Boom - worked like a charm!
Heading down to the train …
Heading to our terminal ...
Heading to our gate ...
Boarding the plane ...
Jarrett and Blaine sat together ...
Jacob, Bowdie and I were in front of them ...
Of course, Jake was completely stoked to be on a plane!
Can you tell how excited he was?
He literally looked out the window for most of the 2 hour flight.
Bo got a little nap.
Good idea … he still had a 4 hour drive ahead.
And a week, in a barrack, with the team!
Still looking out the window!
We landed … and had it timed perfectly.
Beck landed an hour before us and headed to get the rental.
God blessed us in a HUGE way … the line for a taxi was ridiculous.
Beck wasn't sure how she was going to get to the rental place.
Our schedule was pretty tight - supposed to be in C-town by 3:30 or so.
Lo and behold, a guy 'just happens' to show Beck another line to get in for a taxi.
Boom - she was in one in no time and off to the rental place.
Once there, the van we rented wasn't ready … because we were earlier than our 12:00 rental time.
Again, God blessed in a huge way …
just as they told Beck that they didn't have a van ready,
a man showed up and turned one in!
It wasn't perfectly clean, but it worked.
And so, Beck picked us up and we were off to Cooperstown from LaGuardia
by 12:30!
It truly was a miracle and lots of favor from the Lord!
Waiting on Beck ...
This almost NEVER happens.
Jacob has never been a napper and is not one that needs a lot of sleep.
It just shows how early our day got started …
so glad he could rest.
Now to begin the 4 hour drive!
